Meet: The Anthurium

Known by many names, including laceleaf and flamingo flower, the anthurium plant is beloved for its red, heart-shaped flowers and glossy green leaves.

Anthurium flowers are extremely long-lasting. With proper sunlight and adequate nutrients, an anthurium plant will flower for several months. Even once cut, anthurium flowers have been known to last upwards of 40 days!

This makes anthuriums a wonderful symbol of long-lasting love, friendship and devotion, so it's no wonder anthurium plants are such popular gifts for Valentine's Day!

Did you know? Anthurium flowers are not really flowers at all, but rather spathes — a type of modified leaf.

What's in the box? 

Includes an Anthurium plant and a decorative white ceramic pot (pot may appear different to the one pictured). Pot will be secured within a travel bag for transportation.

Please note that each plant is unique and may therefore appear different to the one pictured here.

Plant is approximately 17cm wide at the pot and 50–60cm tall. Repot when plant has outgrown its current one.

Care tips 

• Anthuriums like bright, indirect light — it needs plenty of indirect light in order to flower — but won't tolerate extended periods of direct sunlight, including light coming through a window
• As aroids, anthuriums enjoy humid conditions. Consider spritzing leaves with water, especially in the summer
• Water when at least 50% of the soil feels dry. Allow water to drain away properly, take care not to overwater and do not allow the plant to sit in standing water (like at the bottom of a saucer); soil should be allowed to dry out between waterings
• Mildly toxic to cats, dogs and people — keep safely out of reach of children and pets.
