The Malabar Headland National Park offers visitors the chance to explore a unique ecosystem of heathland, wetland, and coastal vegetation. Once upon a time, you could take horses out on trail rides through this beautiful area with Malabar Riding School, long since closed, although an Equestrian Club does still offer riding lessons in the area. If you’re in Malabar on a Saturday morning and happen to hear the resounding “pop, pop, pop” of a rifle being fired in the distance, don’t be alarmed—the Headland is also home to the ANZAC Rifle Range, which opened in 1855.

You won’t find any fancy bars or restaurants in Malabar, but there are still a couple of hidden gems if you’re after a good feed. For a classic Aussie barbecue chicken, chips, burgers and salads, you can’t beat Crazy Chix, located on Franklin Street. The line for Crazy Chix is always out the door around lunch and dinner-time, but the good blokes behind the counter never keep you waiting long. Across the other side of Anzac Parade, you’ll find Big Buns, your go-to for juicy burgers, hotdogs and American-style eats.

Overall, Malabar is a charming suburb with a lot to offer its residents and visitors. Whether you're looking to relax by the beach, explore the local national park, borrow a few books from the library, or simply soak up the friendly atmosphere, Malabar is definitely worth checking out.
